Synthetic bathroom countertop looking dull? Learn how to make your bathroom vanity and faucet shine with this simple trick, using something you already have!

Somewhere along the line, I’d started calling it Old Yeller.

Every time I walked by it, I averted my eyes.  It was a pretty sad sight, but it was still part of our household.

A short conversation with an acquaintance changed my perspective, though.

Turns out, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

Don’t you hate that feeling where you KNOW something in your house is clean, but it doesn’t really look clean?  It doesn’t really look dirty, it just isn’t… sparkling.  It doesn’t look fresh.

I used to have that problem with my bathroom countertops and faucets.

I knew they were clean (because I had just cleaned them), but the didn’t look great.  The old, yellow-ish countertops looked dull and blotchy.  And no matter what I did, the chrome faucets looked streaky and were always full of water spots within a few uses.

No matter how much I buffed them, it seemed like my countertops and faucets looked dull and filmy.  They just didn’t feel clean.

Until one day, I had a conversation with a woman I know who cleans houses for a living.

Then, everything changed.

A Quick Warning

Before I share this tip for getting shiny bathroom faucets and countertops, I need to make something very clear.

This method is intended ONLY for use on synthetic (manufactured), non-porous, finished countertops, such as porcelain or fiberglass.  It also works on chrome or stainless steel sinks and chrome faucets.  My vanity top, pictured below, is a fiberglass composite.

It is NOT intended for use on natural stone, such as marble, granite, or engineered stone such as quartz.  You should ALWAYS check the seller’s care instructions before trying a new cleaning method on surfaces in your home.

Okay, now that the red tape is out of the way, on to the tip!

How to Make Your Bathroom Vanity and Faucet Shine:  A Simple Trick

Are you ready?  Here’s how to make you bathroom vanity and faucet shine.  This is a perfect trick for when you need your sink and faucet to look clean, but you don’t have a lot of time.

It’s super simple.  After cleaning and disinfecting your bathroom vanity like normal, spray a cleaning cloth or paper towel with your favorite glass cleaner. (My favorite is Murchison-Hume’s Premium Glass Polish.)

Next, wipe down your countertop and faucet with the glass cleaner.  Then wipe down with a dry cloth or dry paper towel, and boom!  Mega-watt shiny faucet and vanity!

As an added bonus, I’ve noticed that using glass cleaner on my countertops and faucets seems to keep them looking cleaner for longer.

Here’s a quick before and after of the faucet in our guest bathroom:
