The living room is a high traffic area.  As a result, it can get dirty fast.  Use this living room deep cleaning checklist to get your living room sparkling in an hour or 2.

The lampshades were a muted, dusty rose color.

The couch?  A soft, dusty blue.

I had guests coming in an hour, and that just wouldn’t do.

The living room is a high traffic area in most homes.  We spend time there as a family, often walk through on the way to other parts of our home, and it’s often a favorite napping spot for pets.

All that activity adds up to lots of dirt, grime, and yes, dust.

When your all the colors in your living room start turning to “dusty rose,” “dusty blue,” and even “dusty glass” tabletops, it’s time to deep clean.

The Importance of a Living Room Deep Cleaning Checklist

Deep cleaning is a few steps above speed cleaning.  Instead of quickly dusting and arranging a room, deep cleaning requires a thorough, meticulous cleaning of your home.

Even if you dust and vacuum your living room once per week, there are probably places you don’t always think to clean.  As a result, completing a detailed living room deep cleaning checklist will make weekly cleaning easier to manage.

If your living room is cluttered, deep cleaning will be easier after decluttering your living room.

How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Living Room?

Depending on your furniture and how you use your living room, deep cleaning can be an involved task.  It also depends on how clean you want your living room to be.

If your kids keep some of their toys in the living room, it might be a good idea to disinfect them every week or 2.  If your couch tends to have a lot of food crumbs between the cushions, you might need to deep clean a few times per month.

My living room deep cleaning checklist includes living room-specific tasks that you’d do daily or weekly, as well as tasks that are reserved for deep cleaning only.  As a result, you’ll get your entire living room completely clean.  All you need are my living room deep cleaning checklist, plus my whole home deep cleaning checklist for deep cleaning tasks which apply to every room in the home.  All of my deep cleaning checklists are perfect for working women, because they can be completed little by little, whenever you have time.

In a separate post, I’ll provide a checklist for daily and weekly living room cleaning tasks.

Order of Deep Cleaning Tasks

You might have heard that cleaning top-to-bottom is the most efficient method.  That’s how my living room deep cleaning checklist is setup.  As a result, you’ll clean more efficiently and minimize re-cleaning areas you’ve already done.

The tasks on my living room deep cleaning checklist are also ordered in a logical way.  Because of this, you can move methodically through deep cleaning your living room.

Something else that’s great is that you don’t have to deep clean your entire living room at once.  You can complete a deep cleaning task or at a time, then take a break from cleaning if you need to.  You’ll know just where to start when you have time to finish deep cleaning your living room.

Complete the Living Room Deep Cleaning Checklist in Bite-Sized Chunks, If Needed

If you don’t have the time or endurance to complete the entire living room deep cleaning checklist all at once, do it in chunks.  Find 10-45 minutes each day and complete one or two tasks from the checklist.

Some tasks will take just a few minutes, some may take longer.  It depends on your furniture, how you use your living room, how clean it already is, and how quickly you work.

Speaking of which… do you have trouble keeping your house clean?  If so, you might want to check out my post on how to keep your house clean in 30 minutes a day.

Living Room Deep Cleaning Checklist

Use this checklist to deep clean your entire living room.  You can complete it all in a few hours, or work on it in bite-sized chunks.

Be sure to check out my whole-home deep cleaning checklist for universal tasks to complete in every room, including the living room.  Those tasks aren’t included in the checklist below, but you’ll want to complete them as well

Living Room Deep Cleaning Checklist:  Conclusion

My living room deep cleaning checklist will get your living room completely clean, from top to bottom.  As a result, light weekly cleaning will be easier, and you’ll be ready when last-minute guests stop by to visit.  Oh… and you won’t have to try and convince people that your couch is “dusty blue.”
