An under-bed organizer is the perfect solution to maximizing space and storing clothes, shoes, and more.  Check out these 7 clever ways to use under-bed organizers!

What’s lurking under your bed?

Or, maybe a better question is, what should be lurking under your bed?

If you’re strapped for storage space in your small bedroom (or your big bedroom even!), you might be missing out on a goldmine of storage space.

That’s right, I’m talking about that empty space the hovers under you while you sleep – the space under your bed.

The king bed in my room takes up 42.17 square feet of space.  That’s no small area when we’re talking storage!  With all that square footage sitting empty under the bed, it makes tons of sense to find ways to use it.

Enter the under-bed organizer.  These versatile storage solutions are sturdy, feature a low profile, and are designed to scoot in and out from under the bed with ease.

There are so many things you can store under your bed to maximize space in your bedroom (and elsewhere in your house, too!).  The possibilities are endless, but I’ve narrowed it down to a few of my favorites.

Ways to Use and Under-Bed Organizer

Here are 7 ways to use an under-bed organizer to maximize storage space in any bedroom, big or small.  Trust me, you’ll thank yourself for the extra storage space!

Store Shoes

Okay, this one isn’t exactly revolutionary.  But it works!  Shoes can take up a lot of square footage in a closet.  They can also quickly become cluttered and disorganized.  An under-bed organizer is the perfect storage solution for shoes.  It gets them out of the way, and keeps them eat and tidy.

I use a few of this under-bed organizer to store the shoes I wear the most (That’s part of my Tieks collection above!).  Getting dressed in the morning is quick and convenient as a result.  It also helps cut down on clutter, because each pair has its own little spot.

Store Out-of-Season Clothing

Another great use for under-bed organizers is to store out-of-season clothing.  This is especially helpful if you have a small closet or limited storage space outside of your bedroom.

There are tons of options for under-bed storage of out-of-season clothing.  I like this fabric one from Amazon because it doesn’t have dividers.  That being said, my favorite shoe organizer above would also be great for storing rolled up sweatpants, jeans, or narrowly-folded sweaters.

Store In-Season Clothing

Under-bed storage doesn’t have to be just for out-of-season clothes.  It’s also a great place to store some in-season clothing!

If you share your dresser or closet with your spouse, you might find that you tend to run out of space.  Under-bed storage containers are perfect for current-season wardrobe overflow.  Think seasonal clothes and accessories like scarves, sunglasses, flip-flops, swimsuits, gloves, etc.

This is especially helpful if you don’t have a dresser or have limited space.  It would work great with the KonMari filing method, too!

Store Kids’ Toys

Another great use for an under-bed organizer is storing kids’ toys.  Stowing toys under the bed is helpful for so many reasons!

  • Kids can easily access their toys by pulling storage out themselves
  • Toys are already at floor level and ready for play
  • Cleanup is a breeze – just toss toys in the under-bed organizer and slide it under the bed!

This under-bed organizer is made of sturdy wood and has castors, so it rolls easily across the floor.  You could also use a fabric organizer with or without dividers to store toys.  I can totally see my favorite shoe organizer above coming in handy for storing dolls and action figures!

Store Jewelry and Accessories

Under-bed organizers are also perfect for storing jewelry and accessories.  Things like scarves, sunglasses, purses, belts, and hats would be right at home under the bed.

Inexpensive jewelry could be happy under-bed too!  Here’s a totally doable idea.  Take jewelry trays like these from Amazon, load them up with baubles, and set them inside a fabric under-bed organizer.  You could even stack multiple trays inside of the organizer.  Your jewelry will stay protected and out of the way, and you’ll always have easy access!

Store Extra Linens

Under-bed storage containers are a great place to store extra linens, like spare sheets, blankets, and towels.  This is a perfect solution if you don’t have a linen closet.  You can also store out-of-season linens under the bed.  For example, swap out flannel sheets for a summer-weight duvet, and store the sheets for next winter!

Store Keepsakes and Collections

Another clever use for under-bed organizers is storing keepsakes and collections.  whether it’s a tub of your old college memorabilia, your child’s artwork, or your collection of vintage dishware, they’ll all be perfectly at home under the bed.

For storing sentimental or valuable items, I’d suggest a shallow, hard-sided container like this one from Amazon.
